Season's
Greetings - Happy Hollandaise - Happy Christmas - Happy Kwanzaa
- Happy Ramadan - Happy Hanukkah - and... Happy New Year!
Well,
what a year! What a year for ALL of us? "2001-A Space Odyssey",
that futuristic SiFi event is now... in the past?!?! The future
is now.
I
was talking with some friends the other day about the last year
and unquestionably Sept 11th is the worst day of the year if not,
of our entire adult lives. But what I was surprised at was that
we all came to the conclusion that the best part of the year is
what happened after 9-11. I hope many
of you understand what I mean.
Our
concepts have changed regarding Heroism, Courage, Rage, Safety,
Weeping, Race Relations, War & Peace, our fellow Passengers,
feelings of Unity and "what matters".
One
of the things I've always loved about New York was that it was an
island that every race had come to call their own. We saw it in
the faces of the Office Workers, in the Fireman, in The Cops and
in the People running in the street.
A few weeks after 9-11 a friend asked
if I thought it was all right to laugh? I said "It is, it's
just that the joke better be damn good!" I still feel like
that now. You just want someone who "gets it" to tell
you a story, make you dance or laugh out loud. It does not mean
that every Song has to be a
Protest Song, nor does every Film have to be Propaganda. You just
want things to matter. What was once Silly, is now Stupid and Useless,
what was once Cynical, is now Cruel and Ugly.
P.S.
You can still be flippant and clever though. ;-)
The
point is... things have changed and they are going to keep changing!
This is an exciting and challenging time to be alive. Afghanistan
woman are looking forward to a New Year of change, how about you?
Happy New Year indeed.
THANK
YOU
The
Wild Colonials get forwarded all your e-mail's, letters and questions
and we can't tell you how much we appreciate your support, in times
when we are sometimes wondering "where the hell we fit into
to all this Pop Culture stuff we see around us".
Your
e-mails also help especially when we are in-between albums and not
touring.
We
will still need your love and support but, we will not let you down.
The new Wild Colonials album "Get A Life!"
will be coming out next year.
Yours,
Shark
